When: Thursday Sept 23, 2010
Time: 9pm-10pm
Where: Quantum 1
This event is for FolsomFringe attendee's only
(Please come early to pick up your event badge!)
Description:
There are any number of hanky codes or flagging webpages; gay, lesbian and straight - well, straigh-ish... Beyond pages, there are entire websites devoted to flagging. But how many bandanas can one person wear? And what about the switches? As an aside, one blog on quilting offers some insight as to the history of slave flagging - quilts used to signal escaping slave the route to safety.
"Speed Flagging" will be an opportunity to meet, chat - and try out some non-liniar exercises - since many of us have more then one criteria or interest. We'll spend a little time on the history of flagging, make some "mini-flags" and then spend some time sorting ourselves out. Participants will be asked how they self identify - along a continium - in this case a length of rope. Watch how others are placing themselves along our continum, keep an open mind, and keep an eye on that stranger with the cute backside and the interests that seem to match yours.
We'll only have an hour and this exercise will have everyone on their feet, scrambling around and laughing. Be early to make sure you have a spot, we will have to limit the number attending - but unlike other 'dating' games, we won't require you to sit on one side of the table or the other. Switches heaven!
This mixer is a great way to start your weekend, especially if it's your first time at Fringe, or if you're on your own at the event. Bring your sense of fun and leave with a mini-flagging pin you can wear all weekend and maybe even up at Flosom? What a great conversation starter! And all part of your package - just be sure to sign up early.
And remember - what goes on at 'Fringe, stays at 'Fringe. Unless you meet "the One", in which case, we all want cake and champagne!!
Note from MzParker:
Back in February I did a mixer/event at Edges, and called it "Stupid Cupid" because it took place on February 14th - and because Valentines Day seemed to be for traditional 'couples'. The answer? A non-liniar non-traditional opportunity for people to meet and maybe connect. That spur of the moment event was quite a success, lots of participation and people seemed to continue their conversations over dinner and on into the evenings party.
I have been asked to repeat this event at the FolsomFringe'10, but have renamed it "Speed Flagging".
